Parents — hard to fathom, difficult to communicate, sometimes. I know I've passed the rebellious adolescent age to complain about all these. But, seriously, I get super fed-up with my parents sometimes & they do, get pissed at me for the tiniest & most absurd reason.
For example, if I'm out partying late, they call my mobile asking me to go home early. Alright, for this, I understand their concern. And I do not blame them for this unless they call like 101 times when I've already told them 1 day in advance that I'll be home really late the next.
That aside. My Mum just screamed at me for watching telly in the living-room. It was only 1am for christ's sake! Plus, it's sweet Saturday night! (They should be glad that I'm not out.) Her reason being, I'm wasting electricity. I should watch my dramas during the day so that I do not have to switch on the lights. DUH! Like I'm not wasting any by surfing the net in my room. I only have got 2 activities at night if I'm not out. First being, watching my Japanese dramas & second, surfing the net. I reckon both activities use the same amount of electricity?
If the TV's not on, my comp will be. If the comp's not on, the TV will be. It's either this or that plus the lights & the fan. (I don't even on the air-con in my room can?!)
If this reason is not good enough, she says if I sleep late, I'll get up from bed late the next day & the fan will be on running for a longer time, thus wasting electricity. Like WTF?! Even though I'm not sleeping, my fan's still on what! Given the weather, how can anyone survive without a fan? Look, I'm not even talking about air-con. Have you seen anyone who has an air-con in her room but do not use it?
It's just the electric bills she cares about. It's not as if I'm a slug living on them for free. I have a proper full-time job & I give them monthly allowance. Is that not good enough?
Just like what me & my colleague were talking about the other night, (Her parents are somewhat like mine, but less absurd.) "The only way to solve this problem is to get married & move out. Me & my husband found new lives after marriage. So, go get married!", she quipped.
Looks like this Parental Guidance Problem will stay with me for a long time now.
