Tell me if I'm heartless.
I met this old man, (apparently a beggar) asking for $2 from me at the MRT station near my place on Friday afternoon as I was making my way to work. I was taking the escalator down to the gantry area when this old man (nothing to do with the nursery rhyme) called out to me.
Old Man: "Xiao jie xiao jie!" (I thought he needed some help so I turned & looked at him)
Me: "Huh?"
Old Man: "Wo zao bu dao wo ge ge. Wo yao hui Chua Choa Kang. Hai cha liang kuai qian."
Me: "Ni qu na bian ba!" (I pointed to the station control & walked away)
Everyone ignored him like I did. Today, I met him again at the same location in the station. He said the same thing. Used the same tactic. Like the day before, no one bothered about him. He looks mentally sound (with excellent speaking abilities) & able-bodied. Just alittle sloppy looking. I wanted so much to ask him, "Eh? Ni hai mei zhao dao ni de ge ge?" But I'm afraid that he'll wallop me so I just kept shut.
And no, I didn't buy my MP3 player. Stupid Carrefour says they don't carry the pink one. Then why the hell advertise in the papers, saying 4 colours are available?! What a waste of time & effort. Dropped Creative an email, hopefully they'll reply soon. But anyhow, if you see the player in pink on sale elsewhere (I know Creative offers online purchase, but I wanna look at the actual player before making a decision), PLEASE let me know. I'll gladly share my joy with you.
